(The Hindu): Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology (KIIT) in Odisha has launched a scholarship in honor of the Nepali student who was discovered dead in her dorm room on February 16. Following on-campus demonstrations over the event, the institute took action to allay worries.
On February 19, Achyuta Samanta, founder of KIIT and KISS, visited with the student's father and uncle to convey their condolences. In a statement, the institution confirmed the scholarship and reaffirmed its dedication to providing for the student's family and guaranteeing their safety.
The same day, representatives from Nepal's Embassy in New Delhi also paid a visit to KIIT, where they spoke with Nepali students and assured them that measures were being taken to avoid future occurrences of this kind.
According to the institute, it is actively helping students who haven't gone home yet. In order to reiterate KIIT's commitment to the welfare and safe return of Nepali students, founder Samanta also personally spoke with Minister for Water Supply Pradeep Yadav and Foreign Minister Arzu Rana Deuba of Nepal.
In compliance with the law, the student's body was sent to Nepal on February 19. Before being repatriated, officials attested that all necessary procedures had been completed.
This KIIT endeavor aims to honor the student's memory while also addressing the challenges raised by the incident. The purpose of the safety assurances and scholarships is to restore confidence between students and their families.
