
KIIT Orders Nepali Students to Leave Campus After Protests
KATHMANDU: Following the murder of a Nepali student in a university residence hall on Sunday night, KIIT University in Odisha, India, has ordered Nepali students to vacate the campus. Following a wave of protests in which students accused the university of handling the situation carelessly, the decision was made.
All international Nepali students are required to leave the campus right away, according to a message from the university's Registrar's Office. Additionally, the announcement stated that, as of February 17, the university would be permanently closed to Nepali students.
The deceased student has been identified as Prakriti Lamsal, a third-year B.Tech student. Although the exact cause of her death has not yet been established by authorities, she was found dead in her hostel room under mysterious circumstances.
Prior to her death, she reportedly informed the university's International Relations Office about alleged mistreatment by a male classmate. Additionally, a sample of audio believed to be relevant to the case was shared on social media.
After the event, students demonstrated outside the school, claiming that the management was generally inept and had ignored their concerns.
Police have moved Prakriti's body to Capital Hospital for a post-mortem, and they are currently investigating her death.
