Students take charge of traffic management for second day in Dhaka
KATHMANDU: Students continued to manage traffic as volunteers for the second day, with Ansar members joining them at key intersections in the capital. The Daily Star reported that students, including members of Bangladesh Scouts, directed traffic at major junctions like Bijoy Sarani, Kakoli, Mirpur-10, Karwan Bazar, and Panthapath. Posts on social media showed students also managing traffic in areas such as Bashundhara Gate, Rampura, Uttara Jashim Uddin, and Dhanmondi, ensuring vehicles adhered to the correct lanes and traffic rules.
While Ansar members were present, eyewitnesses noted that students primarily controlled the traffic. General students and passersby assisted them in maintaining orderly vehicle movement. Sharif Md Rafi, a former student of Daffodil International University, mentioned that students interested in volunteering joined a Facebook group to coordinate efforts. By 11:30 am, about 40 students from his group were active in Bashundhara, Shanir Akhra, Hatirpool, and Shahbagh, splitting their tasks between cleaning roads and managing traffic.
The student volunteers began their work early in the morning to ensure smooth traffic flow, joined by hundreds of students from various institutions. They strategically spread out across multiple roads to effectively utilize their manpower and address traffic congestion in different areas.
This initiative by the students highlights their commitment to civic responsibility and their capability to manage urban challenges effectively, reflecting a significant community effort to maintain order in the city’s traffic system.
