EU Ambassador Veronique Lorenzo meets with PM Oli
KATHMANDU: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli received a courtesy call from EU ambassador to Nepal, Veronique Lorenzo, on Wednesday at the PM's home in Baluwatar. During the meeting, PM Oli talked of the current process for implementing transitional justice, which is part of the peace process in the country and appreciated the EU’s help in Nepal’s social and economic development.
The Prime Minister provided Ambassador Lorenzo with an update on the progress of the measure intended to modify the 2014 Enforced Disappeared Persons Truth and Reconciliation Commission Act. This revision seeks to address victim concerns and bring the Comprehensive Peace Accord, Supreme Court orders, and international standards into compliance. The top priorities are to look into disappearances and to ensure justice, the truth, and healing.
Along with highlighting the 50th anniversary of Nepal-EU diplomatic ties, PM Oli stated Nepal's objectives to transition from a developing to a middle-income country by 2026 and by 2030. He underlined that reaching these goals requires assistance from development partners like the EU.
In response, Ambassador Lorenzo extended her best wishes for the success of the government's initiatives and PM Oli's tenure. She acknowledged the progress made and expressed continued support for Nepal's development goals.
