Political impasse persists as parliamentary parties fail to reach consensus
KATHMANDU: Despite Speaker Dev Raj Ghimire's dedicated efforts, the meeting with the chief whips of parliamentary parties on Tuesday ended in failure, unable to achieve consensus despite being held at Singha Durbar. The primary objective of the gathering was to resolve the existing impasse among parties, but unfortunately, no agreement could be reached.
The failure to reach consensus among the political factions is anticipated to have a direct impact on crucial discussions, including deliberations on the government's policies and programs, as well as the upcoming budget session, as highlighted by Speaker Ghimire. While the Nepali Congress (NC), the main opposition party, has expressed its willingness to allow the government to present policies and programs for the forthcoming fiscal year, it remains steadfast in its stance on the formation of a parliamentary inquiry committee to address cooperative issues.
The impasse is further complicated by the demand for clarification from the Home Minister, who is facing allegations of involvement in a cooperative fraud case. The minister has called for clarification regarding the queries raised against him by opposition parties, adding another layer of complexity to the ongoing political deadlock. Despite efforts to navigate through these challenges, the lack of agreement poses significant hurdles to the smooth functioning of parliamentary proceedings and the effective governance of the country.
