During Spain's bull running fiesta, one guy was gored and seven others were hurt.
A man was gored and seven others sustained minor injuries on Tuesday during the second day of the San Fermin festival in Pamplona, where thousands gather along the city's narrow medieval streets for the traditional bull run.
The gored individual, identified only as over 25 years old, was pierced under his right armpit by a bull's horn, according to a city emergency services spokesperson. He is currently stable and under observation.
The seven other participants suffered minor injuries, including bruises and contusions to areas like the head and shoulders.
In the festival's daily “encierros,” or bull runs, bulls are released into the streets to charge toward the bullring, accompanied by hundreds of runners wearing white outfits with red scarves. On Tuesday, one bull paused midway and aggressively confronted the runners for several intense minutes.
The week-long festival, made famous by Ernest Hemingway’s 1926 novel *The Sun Also Rises*, includes not only the morning bull runs and afternoon bullfights but also continuous celebrations featuring music, dancing, drinking, and religious events honoring Saint Fermin.
People often get hurt during the many bull runs that happen every year in Spain. In Pamplona, a total of at least 16 people have lost their lives over the years, with the most recent death taking place in 2009.
