KATHMANDU: Prince Edward and Princess Sophie of the British Royal Family are arriving in Nepal today for a private visit of about a week, as confirmed by the British Embassy in Kathmandu. Their visit is expected to include various engagements across the country.

Princess Sophie will be coming from London separately, and Prince Edward, who is now in India, will be coming from Delhi to Nepal. Prince Edward is scheduled to meet with Ramchandra Poudel, the president of Nepal, later today after arriving. Princess Sophie will arrive in Nepal and join him.

In Kathmandu, the royal couple will attend functions at hospitals and schools. In addition, they will visit Pokhara to honor the long-serving British Gurkha soldiers by meeting with their families.

Currently ranked 15th in the British line of succession, Prince Edward was the younger brother of King Charles III and the youngest son of the late Queen Elizabeth II. His presence holds significance since he represents the British royal family in Nepal.

The first major foreign visit to Nepal in 2025, this visit demonstrates the strong ties between Nepal and the United Kingdom. After their duties are over, the two are expected to head back to the UK on Sunday.
