Swiss climber Josette Valloton becomes first female international guide to summit all 14 peaks above 8,000m
KATHMANDU: Josette Valloton, a climber from Switzerland, has made history as the first female international mountain guide to summit all 14 peaks above 8,000 meters. Her accomplishment was confirmed after she successfully reached the summit of Mt. Manaslu this morning, as part of a Seven Summit Treks expedition.
Valloton, a certified IFMGA guide, has achieved this milestone through her resilience and determination. Her story is notable for breaking barriers in a field traditionally dominated by male climbers.
Her notable ascents in the Alps during the 1950s and 1960s, particularly challenging routes in the Mont Blanc massif, were groundbreaking and significantly challenged gender norms in mountaineering.
Valloton's achievements have paved the way for future generations of female climbers, inspiring them to aim higher and continue breaking new ground in the sport.
