PM Modi maintains strong lead in Varanasi as early election data revealed
Early data from the Election Commission's website indicates that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is leading in Uttar Pradesh's Varanasi constituency with a substantial margin of over 60,000 votes. This constituency holds immense significance as Modi has used it as a launching pad for his political career since 2014 when he contested as the Prime Ministerial candidate for the BJP. With this being his third consecutive attempt at victory here, Modi's dominance in Varanasi is evident.
In the 2019 elections, Modi secured a staggering 6,74,664 votes, which accounted for approximately 63% of the total votes cast. His closest competitor, Shalini Yadav, trailed far behind with 1,95,159 votes, resulting in Modi's victory by a margin exceeding 4,78,000 votes. Meanwhile, Congress candidate Ajay Rai, who also contested against Modi in 2014, is currently trailing in the ongoing elections.
Rai's performance in the 2019 elections saw him garnering 1,52,548 votes, a considerable distance behind Modi's overwhelming support. In the 2014 Lok Sabha polls, Rai had secured 75,614 votes, indicating a significant increase in his voter base, albeit still falling short compared to Modi's formidable lead. As the election results unfold, Modi's stronghold in Varanasi appears unshakable, reinforcing his political prowess in this crucial constituency.
The Varanasi Lok Sabha seat remains a focal point of national attention, symbolizing Modi's enduring popularity and the BJP's stronghold in the region. With early trends favoring Modi by a substantial margin, it reaffirms his position as a formidable force in Indian politics, particularly in Varanasi, where he has cemented his legacy as a transformative leader.
