Nepali Embassy in Dhaka urges students to stay indoors due to protests
KATHMANDU: Nepali students studying in Bangladesh have received a warning from the Nepali Embassy in Dhaka on the increasing violence associated with anti-reservation protests. In a statement issued on Wednesday, the embassy recommended Nepali students to stay at home and refrain from pointless travel.
The embassy emphasized that the students should remain where they are until it is absolutely necessary to move. They also recommended students contact the embassy as soon as their colleges instructed them to relocate to safer areas or if their present accommodations became unsafe.
Bangladesh's anti-reservation rallies have claimed six lives, three of whom were students. The protests were started by resistance to reservations granted to the children of Bangladesh's liberation fighters.
There are claims that the student section of the ruling Awami League, the Bangladesh Chhatra League, and protesting students have started fighting violently all over the country. Regarding the safety and security of Nepalese students in Bangladesh, the situation is still tense.
