Kamala Harris and Donald Trump to face off in high-stakes debate on September 10
A high-profile debate between U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris and her Republican opponent, former President Donald Trump, is scheduled to take place on September 10 and air on ABC News. It is expected that this debate will be a pivotal point in the election campaign on November 5. There are also discussions of NBC News organizing a second debate between the two contenders.
Trump has also confirmed a separate debate on September 4 with Fox News, although Harris’ campaign has not yet agreed to this. Trump announced that CBS News would host a vice presidential debate between his running mate, Senator JD Vance, and Harris' running mate, Governor Tim Walz. This debate could further influence the election dynamics.
As of right now, polls suggest that the election is quite close, with Harris seeming to have a little advantage. On July 21, President Joe Biden, who had been heading the Democratic ticket, announced his withdrawal from the race for reelection and backed Harris, who, if won, would become the first female, Black, and Indian-American president.
Trump has criticized Harris harshly, describing her as lacking intelligence and competence. He has used a news conference to disparage her, contrasting her with Biden and attacking her policies. Despite these attacks, Harris has gained some ground in polls but still faces challenges in key battleground states.
