HoR urges government to address persecution of minorities in Bangladesh
KATHMANDU: Members of the House of Representatives urged the Nepalese government to address the cruel treatment of the Hindu and Buddhist minorities in Bangladesh during a Tuesday session. UML MP Kiran Kumar Sah emphasized that Nepal must inform Bangladesh about the crimes carried out by extremist organizations against these populations through diplomatic means. Sah underlined that Nepal has a need to bring these concerns up internationally because it is the country of origin for Buddhism and Hinduism.
Sah also expressed concern about the potential risk of similar religious extremism affecting Nepali communities in the future. He urged the government to take proactive steps to prevent any potential harassment or violence against Hindu and Buddhist communities in Nepal.
Arjun Nar Singha KC, a member of the Nepali Congress, echoed these feelings and expressed dissatisfaction with Nepal's inaction in the face of the violence in Bangladesh. He called for the Nepali government to adopt a more assertive stance against the attacks on minorities and suggested that the country should learn from the experience and take the required steps to safeguard its own religious communities.
