Foreign Minister Rana strengthens Nepal's global ties at UNGA with key bilateral agreements
Dr. Arzu Rana, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, attended the 79th United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York, where she had one-on-one discussions with a number of foreign ministers.
Two important agreements were signed during her meeting with Retno L.P. Marsudi, the foreign minister of Indonesia: the Bilateral Consultation Mechanism and the Visa Exemption Agreement for holders of diplomatic and official/service passports. Marsudi represented Indonesia, and Dr. Rana represented Nepal.
The purpose of these agreements is to improve Nepal-Indonesia collaboration and bilateral relations. A wide range of subjects were discussed as well, such as shared interests, potential relationships, development alliances, and cooperative efforts to tackle climate change.
With regard to areas like investment and tourism promotion, the leaders expressed hope that the recently inked accords will help to strengthen bilateral ties between the two nations.
Minister Dr. Rana also had a meeting with Albert Shingiro, the foreign minister of Burundi. Their conversations centered on their respective relationships, interests, and possible future collaboration between Nepal and Burundi.
They also identified strategies to address climate change impacts, a pressing issue for both landlocked nations. This collaboration aims to enhance resilience against environmental challenges.
Dr. Rana held a separate meeting with Ville Tavio, Finland's Minister of Foreign Trade and Development. They acknowledged the strong and friendly relations that have developed over more than 50 years between Nepal and Finland.
Dr. Rana thanked Finland for continuing to support Nepal's social and economic sectors during this conference. Mutual interests and potential areas of future cooperation were discussed.
Both ministers recognized the importance of continued collaboration to address shared challenges and opportunities for development. They explored potential partnerships that could benefit both countries moving forward.
