Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina resigns and flees to India
KATHMANDU: Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has resigned, as confirmed by a BBC correspondent. She left Bangabhaban on Monday at 2:30 p.m., going with her younger sister Sheikh Rehana on a military chopper, according to the Dhaka Tribune. They were reportedly heading to West Bengal, India.
AFP has reported that Sheikh Hasina and Sheikh Rehana have safely arrived at their destination. Although Sheikh Hasina planned to record a farewell speech before her departure, she was unable to do so.
