17 Nepali students from Bangladesh returning home today
KATHMANDU: 17 Nepali students from Inam Medical College in Bangladesh's Sawar region will be returning to Kathmandu today, according to a statement made by Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli. The students' families appealed for their safety during the ongoing protests in Bangladesh against the government service quota system, and the decision was taken in response.
In a social media statement released on Saturday night, Prime Minister Oli explained that the protests in Bangladesh have created an insecure environment for Nepali students. He mentioned that he met with the student's families and coordinated arrangements to transport the students from Dhaka airport to Kathmandu, with the flight scheduled to leave at 4 am.
Prime Minister Oli added that in order to assist other students who want to return to Nepal, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has sent out a notification with instructions on how to complete an online form. The Embassy of Nepal in Dhaka estimates that approximately three thousand Nepali students are now enrolled in various universities throughout Bangladesh.
