COVID-19 Variants KP.1 and KP.2 detected in Nepal
KATHMANDU: Nepal has confirmed the presence of the COVID-19 variants KP.1 and KP.2 within its borders. These variants, initially detected in African countries, Singapore, and the United States of America (USA), have now made their way to Nepal.
The National Public Health Laboratory conducted gene sequencing on the most recent 40 COVID-19 cases in the country, revealing the presence of the KP.1 and KP.2 variants in 42 percent of these cases. This finding underscores the importance of ongoing genomic surveillance to track the evolution and spread of the virus.
The detection of these variants raises concerns about their potential impact on the trajectory of the pandemic in Nepal. Authorities are closely monitoring the situation and implementing measures to mitigate the spread of these variants and prevent further transmission of the virus. Continued vigilance and adherence to public health guidelines remain crucial in combating the pandemic and protecting public health.
