Twitch is limiting streamers to 100 hours of Highlights and Uploads
Twitch will limit content archive storage up to 100 hours with main points and loads starting April 19th, reducing storage costs. Content beyond this cover will be automatically removed from the lowest performance main point. This change does not affect Clips or VODs (which already get auto-deleted).
Twitch argues that Highlights haven’t been effective for discovery or engagement, making the cost of storing them unjustifiable even though Amazon, Twitch’s parent company, leads the cloud storage market. To help streamers manage their content, Twitch adds a new storage tracker to the video maker's page, adding filtering and loading settings. However, as soon as the ceiling is respected, users cannot exceed 100 hours of saved content. The decision has sparked criticism, particularly from the speed running community.
This is based on outstanding facts for archiving historical races. As many Speedrun recordings are preserved as a Twitch strength on Speedrun.com, this change could erase a key part of the game's history. Streamers are advised to download and back up their content before April 19th or migrate it to YouTube or other platforms.
