Two Dead as Small Planes Collide Midair in Arizona
(ABP News): At least two individuals were killed Wednesday morning in southern Arizona when two tiny planes collided in midair. Both planes were carrying two passengers apiece when the collision happened, close to Marana Regional Airport, which is just outside of Tucson.
One jet made a safe landing, while the other crashed close to a runway and caught fire, according to federal air safety investigators. Two people were confirmed dead in the event by authorities.
After responding to the collision, the Marana Police Department confirmed the deceased. To find out what caused the crash, officials are still looking into it.
This incident follows a series of previous aviation accidents in the US. A tragic mid-air collision occurred in late January in Washington, DC, between an American Airlines aircraft and a military Black Hawk chopper.
Just last week, another aviation accident occurred in Arizona when a plane veered off a Scottsdale runway and collided with a corporate jet. The crash claimed the life of one of the two pilots on the private aircraft, which belonged to Vince Neil of Motley Crue.
At least four major aviation accidents have occurred in North America in the past month. One of the most recent incidents included a Delta aircraft that overturned while landing in Toronto.
Additionally, Alaska had a terrible plane disaster that claimed the lives of all ten people on board a regional airline flight. The dead were found hours after the jet went missing when it crashed off the western coast of Alaska.
Another aircraft disaster occurred in late January when an American Airlines flight and an Army helicopter collided in Washington, DC. The tragedy was the deadliest U.S. aviation disaster since 2001, with 67 passengers killed.
A medical transport plane carrying a child patient, her mother, and four other people crashed into a Philadelphia neighborhood the day following this incident. All seven passengers were killed in the ensuing explosion, and 19 others were injured when the fire spread to many houses.
