KMC launches massive dengue prevention campaign
KATHMANDU: Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) has initiated a Dengue Prevention Campaign to fight the spread of the illness. The metropolis health department has put together a team of 622 people for this endeavor. Rishi Bhushal, the focal person for the campaign, explained that the efforts include spraying chlorine powder, eliminating mosquito larvae, and raising community awareness to mitigate the risk of Dengue.
The campaign, operational since July 9, involves 64 health workers and 558 women health volunteers deployed across all wards of KMC. Their tasks encompass clearing water-logged areas like potholes, removing stagnant water from containers and tires, and educating the public about mosquito breeding grounds and preventive measures.
Additionally, facilities have been set up at health promotion centers to diagnose and treat individuals displaying symptoms of Dengue. A 24-hour toll-free hotline, reachable at 1180, offers counseling on Dengue prevention, while emergency medical transportation via ambulance is available free of charge by dialing 102.
Furthermore, essential medications such as Cetamol and Jeevan Jal required for Dengue treatment are being distributed at health promotion centers to ensure swift access to medical care for affected individuals.
