Kaski district reports surge in dengue cases
KATHMANDU: The District Health Office reports that Kaski district has recorded 40 new cases of dengue fever, bringing the total number of cases in the last week to 75. There have been 362 cases of dengue in the district since January 2024. Office Chief Ram Bahadur Nepali issued a warning, saying that if the outbreak is not contained right now, things may get worse.
The spread of dengue fever has been notably rapid in some wards of Pokhara Metropolitan City, with Ward No. 8 reporting the highest incidence, 16 cases out of 319 in the city. Nepali emphasized the importance of avoiding mosquito bites and seeking timely treatment to prevent severe cases of the disease.
In response to the increase in cases, Mayor Dhanraj Acharya launched a "search and destroy" operation to eliminate mosquito breeding places. This advertising appears every Friday from 10:00 to 10:30 a.m. The increase in dengue illnesses has been attributed to stagnant water in ditches and pits, which creates a breeding ground for mosquitos.
In addition, Pokhara Metropolitan City has assured that all 46 of the city's medical facilities provide free diagnosis and treatment for dengue fever. Mayor Acharya has asked the community to assist in removing any mosquito habitats to help prevent the sickness from spreading further.
