Cholera patient who escaped Teku Hospital found at KMC and returned to Teku
KATHMANDU: A cholera patient who had escaped from Sukraraj Tropical and Infectious Disease Hospital in Teku was found in Kathmandu Medical College (KMC) before being returned to Teku. The patient, along with others who escaped the hospital on Tuesday night, sought care at KMC owing to poor health but were later returned to Teku, according to the Epidemiology and Disease Control Division.
Dr. Mukesh Poudel from the Epidemiology & Outbreak Management Section verified that one of the three patients who escaped was discovered at KMC and later returned to Teku Hospital after receiving initial care. Within an hour and a half, the trio had departed the hospital, with one fleeing through toilet ventilation and the others leaving the ward.
The three patients had been admitted to Teku Hospital on Sunday after testing positive for cholera at a rehabilitation center in Thaiba, Lalitpur. One patient had been referred to Patan Hospital due to severe complications. Cholera was confirmed through rapid testing at the rehabilitation center.
Additionally, a youth who tested positive for cholera on July 14 from the same center is currently receiving treatment in the isolation ward at Teku Hospital.
