Manakamana Cable Car resumes service with digital upgrade after 2-month hiatus
KATHMANDU: The Manakamana Cable Car has resumed operations today after completing an upgrade to its system. The upgrade, conducted by Manakamana Darshan Pvt Ltd, involved transitioning from an analog to a digital operating system.
The service had been halted since July 15 to replace the rope and update the technology. The cable car had been in operation for 26 years using an analog system, but it has now gone fully digital, according to Deputy General Manager Ujjwal Sherchan.
Technical experts from Austria oversaw the upgrading to make sure the switch to the new system went smoothly.
The Manakamana Cable Car service, which began on November 24, 1998, was originally introduced to facilitate access for religious visitors to the Manakamana Temple in Gorkha district.
The bottom station of the ropeway is located at Cheres in Ichchhakamana rural municipality of Chitwan, connecting visitors to the temple at Shahid Lakhan rural municipality in Gorkha.
This digital transformation is expected to enhance the efficiency and safety of the popular religious cable car service, which is a significant attraction for pilgrims.
