Gareth Southgate has already delivered a strong message as Tottenham 'attempt to hijack' the Chelsea and Arsenal agreement
Gareth Southgate has already earmarked Leeds United young gun Archie Gray for big things - which will only delight Spurs fans as they move closer to landing the youngster.
Durham-born and bred 18-year-old Gray had a torrid season with Leeds in The Championship in 2023/24, making 44 appearances under Daniel Farke's management. As well as shining in the Championship, he has also excelled on the international stage for England Under-21s, scoring on his first appearance for England Under-21s against Azerbaijan earlier this year.
Gray's outstanding performance caught the attention of Southgate, who in May praised the midfielder's dedication to the club and hinted at a future England call-up. Announcing his Euro 2024 squad last month, Southgate said: “Some of the players in the Under-21s have done really well, especially in midfield.
"Boys like Kobe Mainu, Harvey Elliott, Rico Lewis and others were with us last time and I have to say that Archie Gray from Leeds did very, very well so we can add to that group. Despite him ending in a respectable third place in the Championship., many of the players lost to Southampton in the play-off final at Wembley, with the Premier League side hoping for another run in the second tier A season which could see Gray change scenery. The Peacocks are holding out despite Brentford's massive £40m bid for their midfield ace, despite agreeing to undergo a medical last weekend. It has been reported that "Spurs" have begun negotiations on the conclusion of Gray's contract after keeping a close eye on the youngster for several months. Tottenham boss Anze Postecoglu is set to hold talks with the Leeds prodigy on Sunday in a bid to secure an exciting addition to his squad, according to the Express. Despite interest from rivals Chelsea and Arsenal, Gray is backing a move to Tottenham, according to The Athletic.
