KATHMANDU: Real Madrid marked its Spanish league triumph with a jubilant celebration on Sunday, engaging with supporters, engaging with government officials, and embarking on a parade through the streets of the capital city.
Securing their 36th league title the previous weekend, Real Madrid sealed their victory with four rounds remaining. However, their celebration was postponed as they awaited the outcome of the Champions League semifinal second leg.
In a thrilling showdown against Bayern Munich, Real Madrid secured a 2-1 victory with late goals from striker Joselu, securing their spot in the final against Borussia Dortmund on June 1 in London.
Addressing the enthusiastic crowd on Sunday, midfielder Toni Kroos expressed confidence in the team's return in three weeks. Amidst the joyous atmosphere, the squad embarked on a parade through the city, culminating in the traditional celebration at Cibeles square, where team captain Nacho Fernández adorned the statue of the goddess Cybele with Madrid insignia and hoisted the league trophy amidst cheers from fans.
The trophy presentation took place during a ceremony at the club's training center, where coach Carlo Ancelotti, adorned in a Real Madrid scarf, joined players for photos, exuding a celebratory spirit while enjoying a cigar and sporting sunglasses.
