YouTube cracks down on clickbait
YouTube is tightening its policies on clickbait, aiming to remove videos with misleading titles or thumbnails that fail to deliver on their promises. As first reported by this updated approach will initially roll out in India before expanding to other countries in the coming months, according to YouTube spokesperson Jack Malon,
The new policy targets "egregious" forms of clickbait, particularly in videos related to breaking news or current events. During the initial rollout in India, YouTube will remove videos that breach these guidelines without issuing strikes to creators. The platform emphasizes that its enforcement efforts will focus on newly uploaded videos as it works to educate creators about the updated rules. “As we continue to inform creators, our enforcement will prioritize new video uploads moving forward,” the company stated in its blog post.
YouTube’s goal with this policy is to improve transparency and reduce misleading content on its platform, starting with areas where such clickbait is particularly prevalent. The company plans to expand these measures globally in the near future.
