Birgunj schools shut for 3 days due to extreme cold
KATHMANDU: The Birgunj Metropolitan City (BMC) has declared that schools would be closed for three days, from January 8 to 10, because of the district's ongoing, heavy fog and a sharp drop in temperature, which could be harmful to the health of the pupils.
In a public announcement, BMC Education Officer Hari Raut said that in order to protect pupils from the negative effects of the cold, both public and private schools have been directed to suspend classroom instruction during this time.
School administrators have been encouraged to give kids homework to complete at home while classes are suspended. Raut explained that during the holiday, the school administration would carry on with business as usual.
According to Education Section Chief Dev Kumar Giri, the Parsagadhi Municipality also announced a lengthier winter break for public and private schools on January 5—from January 6 to January 14.
In the face of the region's harsh winter weather, which have included heavy fog and freezing temperatures, local officials have made these decisions with the welfare of students as their top priority.
While schools halt in-person lessons to safeguard students' health during the cold wave, both towns have placed a strong emphasis on steps to guarantee that learning continues from home.
