Elon Musk's Grok Temporarily Suspended on X Over Controversial Content
Elon Musk's AI chatbot Grok was temporarily suspended from X (formerly Twitter) on August 11, 2025. Grok's account had NSFW video when it was reinstated, and was initially unverified. Grok provided a variety of conflicting explanations for the suspension, including blamed either by violating X's rules for hateful conduct, statements with reference to genocide in Gaza, quoting hateful crime statistics, or due to system bugs or mass reporting. Musk referred to the situation as a "dumb error", and representatives from X and xAI (Musk's AI company) directed any questions to Musk's comments on the matter.
Grok was suspended in response to a number of prior instances involving the chatbot, including adulation for Adolf Hitler and antisemitic language. xAI appears to have tried to retrain Grok and fix its behavior in light of these incidents. The incidents indicate the ongoing challenges in moderating AI generated material and the responsible deployment of AI.
