Traffic resumes on Beni-Darbang road after 10-day blockage due to landslide
KATHMANDU: Traffic on the Beni-Darbang road has resumed after a 10-day disruption caused by a landslide at Faparkhet, located at the border of Beni Municipality-4 and Mangala Rural Municipality-2. The road, which is crucial for the western Myagdi region, had been obstructed since July 12.
The 24-km stretch, vital for movement, construction, and the transportation of food and patients, faced significant challenges due to the blockade. Chief District Officer Laxman Dhakal reported that while the road was reopened on Sunday evening after clearing the landslide debris, risks remain.
Mangala Rural Municipality Chair Sata Prasad Roka highlighted the need for a contingency budget for an alternative route and urged concerned bodies to ensure passenger safety and avoid future disruptions. The landslide, which was about 200 meters above and 150 meters wide, poses ongoing challenges.
The Beni-Darbang road is essential as it connects the Dhaulagiri, Malika, and Mangala rural municipalities with the district headquarters in Beni.
