Nepali woman sets world record with Everest-Lhotse traverse
KATHMANDU: Nangsal Choedon Lama, hailing from Gorkha, has made history by becoming the first Nepali woman to traverse from Everest Base Camp to the summit of Mt. Everest and then to Mt. Lhotse in the spring season. This remarkable achievement was confirmed by Pasang Sherpa, Chairman at Pioneer Adventure, who expressed great excitement over Nangsal's accomplishment. She reached the summit of Mt. Everest on May 23 at 02:15 AM, followed by the summit of Mt. Lhotse at 04:30 PM on the same day, and returned to Everest Base Camp in an astonishing 47 hours.
Nangsal embarked on her journey from Everest Base Camp on May 22, 2024, at 4:02 AM and completed her incredible feat by returning to EBC at 3:00 AM on May 24, 2024. Throughout her expedition, she was accompanied by Pioneer Adventure Climbing Guide Kusang Dorchi Sherpa. Nangsal's previous successful summit of Mt. Manaslu with Pioneer Adventure served as inspiration for her to attempt the formidable double summit of Everest and Lhotse.
Originally from the village of Samagaun, Nangsal previously worked as a porter, carrying loads for climbers from various parts of the world. Her journey is not only a personal triumph but also serves as a source of inspiration for the youth in her district, demonstrating that with determination and opportunity, one can achieve their dreams and overcome challenges.
Reflecting on her remarkable accomplishment, Nangsal expressed immense pride in successfully summiting both Mt. Everest and Mt. Lhotse within 47 hours. She acknowledged the immense pressure and numerous challenges she faced but attributed her success to unwavering determination and aspiration.
