Landslide blocks Dumre-Besisahar Road
KATHMANDU: The Dumre-Besisahar road section has become impassable following a landslide triggered by heavy rainfall that has persisted since the previous night. The landslide occurred at Dalal in Besisahar municipality-1, effectively blocking the road as of this morning, as reported by Thaneshwar Chapain, the Information Officer at the District Police Office in Lamjung. Efforts to clear the debris and restore traffic flow have been initiated by a mobilized team, although their progress has been hindered by the ongoing rain.
The continuous downpour has impeded the efforts of the team tasked with removing the landslide debris, prolonging the road closure and exacerbating the plight of stranded vehicles and passengers. Travelers bound for various destinations including Kathmandu, Pokhara, Chitwan, and Manang via Besisahar find themselves unable to proceed, with even an ambulance reportedly caught in the obstruction. The Dumre-Besisahar road, stretching across a distance of 42 kilometers, serves as a vital transportation artery in the region, amplifying the impact of its current closure.
Efforts to address the road blockage continue, with authorities and rescue teams working diligently to clear the landslide debris and restore normalcy to transportation in the affected area. However, the persistence of adverse weather conditions poses a formidable challenge to these efforts, underscoring the urgency of the situation and the need for swift and effective action to mitigate the disruption caused by the landslide.
