Adverse weather disrupts domestic flights at Tribhuvan International Airport
KATHMANDU: There have been major disruptions to domestic flights at Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) due to unfavorable weather conditions in Kathmandu. Weather and poor visibility have caused delays and diversions on flights.
While planes operating under Visual Flight Rules (VFR) continue, there has been a notable impact on flights to places such as Biratnagar and Simara. The weather on two Yeti Airlines flights was getting worse while they were traveling, so they had to return to Kathmandu.
After approaching the target but failing to make a landing, a flight that was headed for Simara had to turn back. Due to severe weather, a second flight that was headed for Biratnagar also had to return halfway.
Airlines have canceled all of the day's mountain flights due to weather-related cancellations, citing safety concerns.
At TIA, international flights are operating normally with no weather-related disruptions in spite of these domestic problems.
Due to the monsoon low-pressure line's unusual southward positioning, which is affecting national weather patterns, the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology attributes the unfavorable weather.
Air travelers are advised to stay updated on flight schedules as weather conditions remain uncertain.
