Gaushala 26 choose not to appeal High Court's acquittal against Sandeep Lamichhane
KATHMANDU: The woman known as Gaushala 26, who accused cricketer Sandeep Lamichhane of rape, has decided to let the Patan High court’s verdict of acquitting Lamichhane go unanswered. She conveyed this by submitting an application to the Government Attorney Office where she has stated that she will not appeal the aquittal in the Supreme Court.
Earlier, the Kathmandu District Court has convicted Lamichhane for rape and given him a sentence of imprisonment for eight years. Lamichhane challenged this decision and filed a petition to the Patan High Court. The sentence was reversed after a hearing by the High Court’s bench of Judges Sudarshan Dev Bhatta and Anju Upreti in which Lamichhane was set free and all charges dropped.
While withdrawing the appeal completely removes Gaushala 26 from the case, it still remains within the government’s discretion to make more legal actions in the case or not. The government’s attorneys being the ones who have been holding the plenary capacity of the case plaintiff will independently decide whether or not to take an appeal of the decision to the Supreme Court as was information received from an attorney's office.
