Woman swept away due to flood in Kailali
KATHMANDU: In the Gauriganga Municipality of the Kailali district, tragic events unfolded as a young woman lost her life to flooding. Sushmita Chaudhary, aged 20 and a resident of Gauriganga Municipality-11, was swept away by the overflowing Kataini River, according to reports from the District Police Office.
Meanwhile, the situation in Bhajani municipality worsened as floodwaters from the Kandra and Karasa rivers inundated the entire town. Kewal Chaudhary, the mayor of Bhajani, confirmed that all wards in the municipality have been submerged, affecting over 3,000 households. Bhajani Municipality is vulnerable to flooding from the Mohana, Pathraiya, Kandra, and Kora rivers, exacerbated by heavy rainfall.
In Joshipur Rural Municipality-3, Bhitaria area, approximately 200 houses have been flooded due to continuous rain. Additionally, families in high-risk areas of Kailari Rural Municipality-7, Rampur, are being relocated to safer locations as a precaution against rising floodwaters caused by persistent rainfall, as reported by local police.
