Street protests by UML paralyze traffic in Kathmandu Valley
KATHMANDU: A street protest led by the ruling CPN-UML party has caused turmoil in the Kathmandu Valley's traffic situation. Widespread annoyance has resulted from commuters and locals caught in traffic on their way to work. Everyday life has been seriously disturbed by the demonstration, since traffic congestion have affected many areas of the city.
In addition to causing traffic jams, the protest has shut down both public and commercial offices. Customers have been unable to finish their responsibilities, and many professionals have had trouble getting to work. The disturbances made it impossible for those who were able to get to offices to complete any work.
The protest has had a major impact on hundreds of schools and pupils. Teachers and pupils were unable to go to school on time because of traffic-clogged school buses. The administration was criticized by stranded commuters who blamed the ruling party for generating needless suffering.
To show off its might to the opposition, the UML is staging a public demonstration at Durbarmarg. Analysts, however, have denounced the demonstration as unjustified and questioned why the ruling party felt the need to organize followers in a way that interfered with traffic and public life. They maintained that these kinds of displays were unwarranted and ineffective.
Congestion was made worse by traffic police stopping traffic at Durbarmarg and forcing cars to take detours in advance of the UML gathering. There were extensive delays as a result of vehicles being diverted from places including Kesar Mahal, Jai Nepal Hall, and Mahendra Shalik, according to officials.
644 traffic police officers have been deployed, and 123 checkpoints have been set up throughout Kathmandu to handle the issue. To keep the peace, police officers from all three district police offices and stations have also been positioned at strategic points and the demonstration site.
Even though it took place throughout the day, the protest has resulted in a notable increase in traffic since the morning. The interruption has been exacerbated by heavy traffic on the ring road and major departure points, especially from Maitighar to Durbarmarg.
Beginning in Bhadrakali, the UML rally proceeded through Sundhara, Bir Hospital, Ghantaghar, and Ratna Park before ending with an awareness gathering at Durbarmarg. In the meantime, Lalitpur's traffic system was further taxed by another Durga Prasai campaign that was held at Balkumari.
