Landslide and flooding displace 50 families in Baglung's Badigad
KATHMANDU: A landslide followed by flooding in Badigad, Baglung, has displaced 50 families, severely affecting the communities in Nayabasti of Badigad Rural Municipality-9 and Ward No. 10. The disaster has impacted areas such as Arupata, Patale, Khor, Salledhara, and nearby settlements, adding to the difficulties following a recent landslide that claimed 11 lives, with one person still missing.
The interruptions in the water and energy supplies are posing serious problems for the relocated households. Being among the most vulnerable, children and the elderly find the situation especially tough. Local resident Bhim Bahadur Budha stated that many of the village's homes are still vulnerable to additional landslides, necessitating the evacuation of the occupants. He also voiced worries on the security of the nearby communities.
Bhimsen Wan, Vice President of Badigad Rural Municipality, stated that efforts are underway to accommodate the displaced families in schools and public spaces. The local government and community members are working together to ensure that those affected have shelter and basic necessities during this challenging time.
