KATHMANDU: During Sunday's session in the House of Representatives (HoR), MPs from various political parties urged the government to prioritize disaster management ahead of the next monsoon season. They underlined the need to take proactive steps to reduce the risk of floods, landslides, and inundations, as well as effective rescue and restoration procedures.

MP Abdul Khan drew attention to an urgent international issue, pressing for swift government action to repatriate six Nepali youths caught in the conflict between Russian and Ukrainian forces. He stressed the necessity for diplomatic efforts to ensure their safe return.

MP Achyut Prasad Mainali raised concerns about Nepal's struggling carpet industry, attributing its decline to what he criticized as unfavorable tax policies. He called for immediate VAT exemptions for carpet traders to rejuvenate the sector.

Cybersecurity issues were highlighted by MP Ashok Kumar Chaudhary, who pointed out increasing incidents of bank account hacking due to inadequate cyber defenses, urging prompt government intervention.

MPs also voiced concerns ranging from budgetary inefficiencies to infrastructure deficiencies. MP Ammar Bahadur Thapa lamented insufficient budget allocations affecting ongoing road projects, risking delays in completion and operational effectiveness.
