Hearing underway for writ petition filed by controversial medical entrepreneur Durga Prasai
KATHMANDU: Durga Prasai, a controversial medical entrepreneur, filed a writ petition, and the hearing is now in progress. Tuesday is the designated hearing day in Justice Prakashman Singh Raut's court.
Following his father's arrest by police on Sunday afternoon at their house, Niraj Prasai, Prasai's son, filed a writ petition for habeas corpus on Monday. The purpose of this lawsuit is to determine whether his father's incarceration was lawful.
The police were able to keep Durga Prasai in jail while they conducted additional investigation because the Kathmandu District Court extended their custody of him in response to the circumstances.
To voice their displeasure with Durga Prasai's detention and the circumstances surrounding it, supporters have planned rallies in Kathmandu, Jhapa, and other places.
The arrest was initiated following a complaint filed by Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) central member Tika Sangraula (Jwala) and other women, who alleged various offenses against Prasai.
Prasai is facing a number of serious accusations, including character assassination, involvement in prostitution, and rude remarks. The public has been quite interested in these charges.
After this complaint was filed, Prasai was detained by the police with permission from the court, which resulted in his current legal situation and the public demonstrations in his favor.
