Prachanda calls for integrity in Nepal’s political leadership
KATHMANDU: In order to establish excellent administration in Nepal, Pushpa Kamal Dahal "Prachanda," underlined the importance of political leaders' genuine objectives and steadfast allegiance. Speaking at a handover program organized by the Federation of Nepali Journalists in Kathmandu, he made the case that performing honorably is more important than just talking about values.
Dahal questioned whether political parties and the government are genuinely committed to combating corruption and promoting good governance. He stated, “Many of us talk about ideals, but what truly matters is how we act. Are we fighting corruption with sincerity? These are questions Nepali society is asking.”
Dahal recognized the value of Nepali media and praised its role in the country's constitution-writing, peace endeavors, and political transformation. "Nepali journalism has provided a significant and established role in significant events such as the war and peace process," he stated.
Dahal emphasized the spread of misleading information as a significant problem and acknowledged how journalism is evolving in the digital age. The Federation of Nepali Journalists must actively combat such false narratives, he underlined, adding, "The digital age offers possibilities as well as challenges." The Federation must handle these issues cautiously.
He also addressed the difficulties faced by working journalists, criticizing the manipulation by larger media houses. He argued that such practices undermine the credibility of journalism and harm its integrity.
Dahal urged the Federation to take a firm stance against slander and propaganda because they do not promote journalism in Nepal. He advised journalists and their organizations to uphold fairness and transparency in order to maintain trust.
Highlighting the disparity between journalists on the ground and larger media organizations, he underlined the need for change and urged the Federation to provide consistency and better working conditions for journalists.
Prachanda advised all parties to prioritize ethical behavior in their work and reiterated the critical role Nepali press plays in advancing democracy and stability. He emphasized that Nepal's progress depends on the integrity of the media.
In his closing remarks, Dahal urged media and political leaders to carry out their responsibilities with integrity, stressing that loyalty and action, not just words, are the true indicators of a commitment to good governance.
