PM KP Oli expands Cabinet with 20 ministers from 4 parties
KATHMANDU: Swearing in twenty ministers from four different parties on Monday, KP Sharma Oli, the newly appointed Prime Minister and Chairman of the CPN-UML, increased the size of his Cabinet. Assuming power under Article 76 (2) of the Nepalese Constitution, Oli became prime minister following the inability of departing PM Pushpa Kamal Dahal to get a vote of confidence.
Members of the Nepali Congress, the largest party in the House of Representatives, and the CPN-UML backed the establishment of the new Cabinet. With the agreement to share power at the federal and local levels, these two parties have formed an alliance. Ministers from the Nepali Congress, UML, Janata Samajbadi Party (JSP), and Loktantrik Samajbadi Party (LSP) are included in the partnership, which represents a wide alliance.
Of the 20 ministers, 10 represent the Nepali Congress, including key positions such as Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Urban Development Prakashman Singh, Minister of Home Affairs Ramesh Lekhak, and Minister of Foreign Affairs Dr. Arzu Rana. Other significant appointments include Tejulal Chaudhary as Minister of Youth and Sports and Ajay Kumar Chaurasiya as Minister of Law, Justice, and Parliamentary Affairs.
The UML contributed eight ministers, with Bishnu Paudel appointed as Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance, and Prithvisubba Gurung as Minister of Communication and Information Technology. JSP is represented by Pradeep Yadav as Minister of Drinking Water and Nawalkishore Sah Sudi as Minister of Women, Children, and Senior Citizens. The LSP is represented by Saratsingh Bhandari, who took the role of Minister of Labour, Employment, and Social Security.
