NC and UML forge new alliance to form government and amend constitution
KATHMANDU: The decision by the Nepali Congress (NC) and the CPN UML to create a new alliance with the goal of creating a new administration and perhaps revising the constitution represents a significant milestone in national politics. Top officials from both parties concluded the agreement late last night, according to a key NC leader, though the pact's specifics have not yet been made public.
Speaking anonymously to the RSS, the central member revealed, "The agreement document, prepared after extensive discussions and preparations, was signed by NC President and former Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba and UML Chairman and Former Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli last night." The agreement outlines plans to establish a commission to recommend amendments to the electoral system, indicating a significant agenda for electoral reform.
The process involves intensive discussions between both parties to determine the distribution of ministerial portfolios in the anticipated new government. NC President Deuba and UML Chairman Oli have been engaged in regular dialogues over the past few days to facilitate this alliance.
In response to these unfolding political dynamics, the NC, UML, CPN (Maoist Centre), and Rastriya Swatantra Party are convening their respective meetings of incumbents and secretariats to strategize further actions in light of this new alliance.
