Major political parties fail to reach consensus on TRC Bill, discussions to continue today
KATHMANDU: Under the supervision of Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal, major political parties in Nepal, the Nepali Congress, CPN (Maoist Center), and CPN-UML, gathered in Baluwatar to discuss the Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC) Bill. But the conference ended without any agreement on important parts of the law.
Law Minister Padam Giri outlined that there are four crucial points on which the parties have yet to agree. These include provisions concerning human rights violations, compensation for children recruited into the military during the conflict, and support mechanisms for victims of the conflict.
Despite the initial meeting ending without resolution, Minister Giri expressed optimism that discussions would continue, aiming to resolve these points promptly. Further discussions were scheduled to take place to address the remaining issues and pave the way for consensus among the political parties involved.
