Janamat Party set to claim CM post in Madhesh Province
KATHMANDU: The Janamat Party, backed by five other political parties, is poised to claim the post of Chief Minister in Madhesh Province, with an agreement reached among the parties to appoint a Janamat Party candidate to the position. Led by CK Raut, the Janamat Party's candidacy for Chief Minister was endorsed by the five-party alliance, solidifying support for the party's leadership in the province.
While Chief Minister Saroj Kumar Yadav of the Janata Samajwadi Party Nepal is preparing for a vote of confidence by June 10, the agreement paves the way for a new Chief Minister from the Janamat Party. Though the Loktantrik Samajwadi Party and Unified Socialist have also aligned with the five-party alliance, their endorsement is pending as they have not yet signed the agreement.
Sharad Singh Yadav, the spokesperson for the Janamat Party, confirmed the consensus among the five parties to form a new government in Madhesh Province. However, only the CPN-UML, Maoist Center, and Janamat Party have formally signed the agreement, while the Unified Socialist and Loktantrik Samajwadi parties have yet to do so.
With a requirement of 54 seats in the 107-member provincial assembly to establish a new government, the coalition parties hold a collective strength that positions them favorably. Presently, the UML, Janamat Party, Maoist Center, Loktantrik Samajbadi Party, and Unified Socialist Party together command a significant share of seats, ensuring a strong foundation for the new government's formation in Madhesh Province.
