Election Commission finalizes calendar for local by-elections scheduled on December 1
KATHMANDU: The Election Commission (EC) has released the timetable for the December 1 local-level by-elections. The nomination registration period for candidates is scheduled for November 17, from 10 AM to 5 PM, as announced by EC Spokesperson Narayan Prasad Sapkota.
The list of candidates will be publicly released by 6:00 PM on the same day. Furthermore, the deadline for complaints against candidates, according to the EC, is from 10 AM to 3 PM, November 18. The nomination papers and complaints will be examined during this time, and the EC will make decisions by November 19 at 5 PM.
Nominees will have till November 20 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. to withdraw their nominations. After that, on the same day, between 1 and 3 PM, the final list of candidates will be released, and by 5 PM, election symbols will be allocated.
On December 1, from 7 AM to 5 PM, voters will cast ballots in the by-elections. Additionally, the EC declared that after midnight on November 28, there will be a silence period during which no campaigning is allowed.
