Chet Narayan Acharya appointed Chief Minister of Lumbini Province
KATHMANDU: On Wednesday, Chet Narayan Acharya is expected to take the oath of office as the new Lumbini Province Chief Minister. His nomination comes after Jokh Bahadur Mahara, the outgoing chief minister, tendered his resignation on Sunday. Province Chief Amik Sherchan made the appointment in line with Article 168 (2) of the Constitution of Nepal.
Sherchan had called for the formation of a new government by 6 pm on Monday, also under Article 168 (2), after Mahara’s resignation. Acharya’s new role comes as a result of a political agreement between the UML and the Nepali Congress, leading to a provincial government headed by UML.
