Bagmati Province Chief Minister Shalikram Jamkattel resigns
KATHMANDU: Shalikram Jamkattel, Chief Minister of Bagmati Province, announced his resignation in a speech to the Provincial Assembly. Jamkattel claimed a lack of confidence in obtaining a future vote of confidence as the key reason for his resignation.
Jamkattel was backed by the CPN-UML, Maoist Center, and Rastriya Prajatantra Party. He was able to get the Bagmati Provincial Assembly to vote for him many times during his tenure. Initially supported by six parties, excluding the Nepal Majdoor Kisan Party, his backing diminished over time.
Despite his early success, Jamkattel acknowledged his inability to effectively manage the ongoing political crisis, which led to his loss of power. His resignation reflects the challenges he faced in maintaining political support within the province.
