Ambica Shrestha, founder of Dwarika’s Hotel, passes away at 92
KATHMANDU: The proprietor of ‘Dwarika Hotel’ of Battisputali, Kathmandu Ambica Shrestha dies at the age of 92. She had been suffering from rheumatism and pneumonia for the past two months and passed away at the Mediciti Hospital in Lalitpur. She leaves behind her son and two grandchildren.
With the establishment of Dwarika’s Hotel, Ambica Shrestha dedicated her life to realizing the dream of her husband Dwarika Das Shrestha. Construction of the hotel began in 1964 but the hotel was only officially completed in 1977.
Ambica Shrestha was a prolific writer and she received many awards and accolades in her lifetime. She was experienced in campaigning for women's emancipation and the protection of cultural heritage up to the age of 74 years. Notably, Shrestha was the president of the Nepal Heritage Society and the founder and first President of the Federation of Business and Professional Women Nepal.
