Pokhara Avengers to chase 171-run target set by Lumbini Lions
KATHMANDU: In their Nepal Premier League (NPL) match on Thursday at the Tribhuvan University Cricket Ground in Kirtipur, the Lumbini Lions set a difficult goal of 171 runs for Pokhara Avengers. The Lions put on a great show after winning the toss and choosing to bat, finishing their innings at 170-5 in the 20 allocated overs.
With an impressive 95 runs off of 59 balls, captain Rohit Paudel was the innings' standout performer. His knock, which included 10 boundaries and four sixes, surpassed Lahiru Milantha of the Janakpur Royals' 75 runs to become the tournament's best individual score. Rohit's dominant performance served as the foundation for Lumbini's innings.
Rohit and Tom Moores' pivotal 110-run stand for the fourth wicket helped the team to a respectable score. Moores, who was run out after 45 runs off 38 balls, including two fours and two sixes, played a supporting role.
The Lions encountered early difficulties despite their valiant efforts, as openers Ashutosh Ghiraiya and Unmukt Chand were dismissed by Pokhara's Bipin Khatri after falling for ducks. With 18 runs, Sundeep Jora contributed before getting caught leg before wicket.
Bipin Khatri spearheaded Pokhara Avengers' bowling attack, taking two wickets to give his team a commanding lead. Additionally, Matt Critchley contributed by getting one wicket to control the Lions' score at crucial times. Despite their best attempts, Rohit and Moores' momentum was too strong to control.
Paudel's outstanding performance propelled the Lions' innings, setting a difficult goal for the Avengers. To chase down the score and maintain their campaign momentum, Pokhara will require a well-rounded batting performance.
