Nepal's Energy Minister and World Bank Director discuss support for energy and irrigation sectors
KATHMANDU: Deepak Khadka, Minister of Energy, Water Resources, and Irrigation, met with David Sislen, the World Bank's Country Director for Nepal, on Thursday. The discussion, held in the energy minister's office, focused on how the World Bank will assist Nepal's irrigation and energy businesses.
Minister Khadka emphasized the importance of collaboration with the commercial sector and donor organizations in advancing Nepal's energy industry. He emphasized the World Bank's role in building the transmission lines necessary for power exports to other countries. The government intends to create 28,000 MW of electricity over the next ten years, and Khadka stressed the lofty target, expressing confidence that the World Bank will help them achieve it.
Khadka expressed hope about the Upper Arun Hydropower Project, which is being supported by the World Bank. He conveyed confidence that construction would be completed soon with continued support from the Bank.
David Sislen assured that the World Bank remains committed to supporting and cooperating with Nepal’s energy and irrigation projects. He acknowledged ongoing efforts to expedite the completion of the Upper Arun Hydropower Project and reiterated the Bank's priority for energy and irrigation initiatives in Nepal.
