Prisoner serving rape sentence escapes from Koshi Hospital
KATHMANDU: 24-year-old Aryan Mohamed Ahmed Khan, who was incarcerated at Morang District Jail after being found guilty of rape, broke out of Koshi Hospital. He had been brought to the hospital with stomach pains on Tuesday. Khan escaped early on Thursday morning while being watched over during his medical stay.
Acting Jailer Tulsi Poudel reported that Khan escaped while being monitored by officers. The incident occurred around 5:15 AM when Khan fought violently with the guards while visiting the restroom, which allowed him to escape.
Police have stepped up surveillance along the Nepal-India border in response to Khan's escape because they believe he may try to travel to India. Concerns regarding the security of prisoners during medical appointments have increased after the breakout.
On March 13, 2023, the Morang District Court found Khan guilty. He was sentenced to 12 years in prison and a fine of 500,000 rupees. Despite the fact that his release was scheduled for February 2035, his escape has made things more difficult.
