Nepal exports Rs 16.93 billion in electricity to India
KATHMANDU: Nepal sold 16.93 billion rupees worth of electricity to India in the last fiscal year, with most of the transactions made during the monsoon season when there was excess production of hydropower. The electricity was sold at Rs 8.72 per unit, according to the Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA).
In contrast, Nepal imported electricity worth Rs 16.81 billion from India in the same period to meet its demand during the dry season when the production of hydropower went down, according to NEA. The imported electricity costs Rs 9.17 per unit on average.
